Personal Branding Photography
Q: How would you describe your approach as a personal branding photographer?
I come from an editorial background, so I naturally see people through that lens. I’m interested in presence, nuance, and how someone comes across in a single frame. Personal branding photography, for me, is about creating images that feel considered but not overworked—polished, natural, and aligned with who you are and how you want to be seen.
Q: You started in women’s fashion magazines. How has that shaped your work today?
It shaped everything. Working in that world teaches you how to tell a story quickly and beautifully, often under pressure. You develop an instinct for light, composition, and what feels current. I bring that editorial sensibility into every shoot now, whether I’m photographing a founder, a consultant, or a creative. It’s about elevating the image without losing authenticity.
Q: You’ve worked internationally for over 25 years—how does that influence your clients’ results?
It means I understand that every industry has its own visual language and expectations. I’ve worked across fashion, corporate, lifestyle, and creative sectors, so I’m very aware of how imagery functions in a business context. My clients aren’t just getting good photos—they’re getting images that are strategically aligned with their brand, their audience, and their marketing.
Q: Many people feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. How do you handle that?
Most people do, and that’s completely normal. My role is to create an environment where you don’t feel like you’re “performing.” Because of my background in fashion and lifestyle photography, I’m used to directing in a way that feels unobtrusive. It’s a collaborative process—I guide you, but I also give you space to settle into yourself. That’s when the best images happen.
Q: What should someone look for in a personal branding photographer in Sydney?
Beyond style, I think it’s about understanding. You want someone who sees both the aesthetic and the purpose behind the images. Personal branding photography isn’t just about looking good—it’s about communicating something very specific. I always approach a shoot with that balance in mind.
Q: How would you sum up what you offer?
It’s personal branding photography with an editorial point of view—grounded in experience, shaped by years in the fashion industry, and tailored to help people present themselves with clarity, confidence, and intention.
Interview with Kiren on SBS Television
“Editorial-styled images have been successfully selling brands for decades, and digital-users want to see this magazine-style of photography online. It's exciting to apply this approach to digital media, help clients tell their stories and build their brands through contemporary visual content”.
Q: Why do individuals need a personal brand?
Having a personal brand is a highly effective way to communicate your vision to your potential clients. In heavily saturated industries it’s the one thing that’s going to set you apart form another business who may be offering the same product. Done well, it will in fact add value to that product. As an individual, it may be your individual style, a signature colour or a particular lifestyle that you’re associated with in your social media feeds.
Q: What can you do to help larger businesses form a deeper connection with their client base?
A large part of what I do these days for businesses is about creating quality content. As an example, this could be a shoot for a health & wellness brand, where we create a series of images that can be used as social media updates, news letters and as mail outs to members. This may also include featured profiles on key staff. All of which can help to humanise a brand and form a deeper connection to one’s clients.
