A Personal Perspective

I’ve always found inspiration in the quieter moments of everyday life. A morning coffee, for example, can be a small pause for reflection before the day begins — an opportunity to slow down, observe and be present. Years of practising and teaching yoga have helped me develop this awareness, and it continues to influence the way I see the world and the people I photograph.

While completing my photography degree, I developed a fascination with European cinema, particularly French films from the 1960s and 70s. I became intrigued by the use of Mise en scène — how the mood of a scene could be conveyed through light, colour, composition and the subtle relationship between people and their surroundings. This understanding of visual storytelling would eventually find its way into my photography, shaping an approach that draws on editorial portraiture, cinema and the beauty of natural, unguarded moments.

Moving to New York in my thirties was another defining chapter. Living and working for close to a decade in such a competitive creative environment challenged me to push my work further and continually refine my perspective. At the same time, my yoga practice offered a necessary counterbalance — a way to step back from the noise, find stillness and look more closely. I think that balance remains an important part of how I work today: bringing both creative intention and a sense of calm to the photographic process.

After photographing thousands of people across different cultures and continents, I remain fascinated by the individuality of the human face. Everyone brings their own character, history and way of seeing the world. Sometimes it reveals itself in a fleeting expression; sometimes it takes a little time and conversation for someone to feel comfortable enough to let their guard down.

I can't imagine a life without observing and photographing people. Whether I'm creating an editorial portrait, a business portrait or a more personal series of images, I'm interested in finding something genuine in the person in front of my camera.

For me, good portrait photography isn't simply about how someone looks. It's about how they feel, what they communicate and what makes them distinctly themselves. My role is to bring my experience and creative eye to that process, offering enough direction to help people feel at ease while leaving room for something unexpected and authentic to emerge.
